Nikica Jurković
About the Author
Nikica Jurković was born in 1989 in Zagreb where he graduated at the School of Design, Faculty of Architecture, and later at the Department of Graphics of the Academy of Fine Arts with the highest praise, Summa cum Laude. He has had various national and international exhibitions and won many prestigious awards.
In his pursuit of maintaining consistency with his artistic signature that is derived maximum from minimum, Nikica takes something typically considered a byproduct in bottle production – the rear slit in the label – and brings it to the forefront. The embodiment of his idea becomes clear when a spectator realizes that Nikica is sending his vision as a message in a bottle. Thus, while the bottle floats on its side, the slit merges with the Horizon.

A minimalist ink drawing depicts a man whose outstretched, elongated arms simultaneously form the horizon line. Through a subtle shift of his body, he leans toward the viewer with the same inclination to connect. The title, “The Man Who Embraced the Horizon,” suggests an affinity for the vastness and boundlessness of the world, as well as an openness of all the senses.
